The object the Rube Goldberg machine was to crack an egg in at least five steps, ending up with more than half the egg and less than half the shell in the final container. As can be seen in the video, we managed to get most of the egg and no shell at all!

For our first toy design assignment, we built a magnetic drawing toy.

A sheet of paper is held down on top of a small table and can then be drawn on using little figurines. Each figurine holds a pen facing down, so moving it across the surface will draw strokes along its path. The figurines have a magnet on the underside, so they are controlled from under the table using magnetic handles. This makes them appear to move magically across the sheet. The idea was to create a new, fun interface for drawing but also for telling stories.

This project was a collaboration with Liangjie Xia, EJ Lee, and Emeri Yarnoff.
A digital recipe book and personal assistant for the kitchen.

Using the touchscreen interface, you can browse through a vast collection of recipes in electronic format and perform searches based on type of dish, country of origin, ingredients required, or preparation time. You compose a meal by selecting the dishes you would like to cook and once you are ready, Sous Chef moves into preparation mode.
